Is there anything going on with John Phillips?

“He had appendicitis.”

Can you talk about the depth you have at linebacker and a guy like Craig Robertson? Does he figure to slot back into where he was originally expected to play?

“What you saw today (was that) Craig moved over to the Mike, and you saw Stephone (Anthony) taking reps at the Will. I want to see Stephone over there on the weakside for a good period of time. I thought during today’s practice he was pretty good there. There’s versatility with some of those guys, so with Craig—Craig’s played them all. (Michael) Mauti’s played them all. (Nate) Stupar’s played a handful of those. (Alex) Anzalone, we think, can go inside at Mike. He has played Mike before. (A.J.) Klein, certainly, has played Mike, and you will see him get Mike reps when we get into some of the nickel situations. For the most part, as you look at that group, there is a primary and a secondary spot they can play. That is how we repped them at Women’s Nike Baltimore Ravens Personalized Elite Team Color Purple Football Jersey today’s practice.”

Are the reads you make from Sam to Will very different?

“Yes, Sam and Will are different. When you are playing over at the Will, you are protected by not getting an uncovered guard on you. You are generally over to the three-technique side. Those two would be different.”

What about Stephone Anthony makes him a potential fit there?

“Number one: he can run and hit. I think, when you play over there on the weakside, that is the first job description, as well as playing well in coverage. So, I thought he handled it really well today.”

You were pretty blunt about what had been holding him back the past couple of years. Has this been an impressive offseason for him?

“Yes. I think he’s done well. I think the time on task with our defense (has been good). I am anxious to see him get back out there, and I’m
Men’s Nike Atlanta Falcons Custom Made Elite Alternate All Black Football Jersey Shirt expecting him to do well. Like I said, today’s the first day, and we’re not in pads, but I thought he looked pretty comfortable there.”

Can you comment on being back out here for training camp again?

“It was good. Like I mentioned before, you’re just trying to be smart between periods. I thought Personalized Falcons Jersey, overall, they are moving around well. We ran afterwards. The key for these guys is to take care of their bodies—hydrating. The recovery period takes place now. We will have a teaching session—more of a walkthrough or extended meeting, really—in the PM. I thought we had good work today. On Saturday, we will be able to put the pads on.”

How much were the huddling issues concerning or just first-day issues?

“If it does not look right, or it feels like it is not the way you want it, as coaches we make a point of emphasis to make them huddle again.”Youth Nike Indianapolis Colts Personalized Elite Away White NFL Football Jersey.

What about Marshon Lattimore’s performance?

“I thought he did pretty well. He had a couple of good snaps. He is stronger. I thought the offseason for him was good. We felt when he came in following the draft process that he had to get back into shape. So, he looked better today. I thought he had a few good (pass) breakups.”

He had to leave before you began the running, though.

“We had two or three guys that cramped up. They just have to get fluids and IVs.”

What does Ryan Ramczyk have to do to win that job?

“At the end of the day, specifically if you asked what the left tackle has to do, the first thing he has to do is stay in front of them. Now, there is a lot to that: getting the calls, being able to handle the run and the pass equally well. So, it requires a level of consistency and trust.”

Last night you did not want to elaborate on the conditioning test. Who were some of the guys that were the top guys?

“We went through it, and number one, I would say that for this test, the best receiver times—(Jake) Lampman and a few of those guys—were in the 80s on average. Yet, we had defensive linemen in the 70s. So, that gives you an idea of the type of test it involved, with the rowers and the sled pushes. A lot of the defensive linemen stood out. A.J. Klein stood out. Brees, as I mentioned, had a really good time. I could go on, and on, and on, but that intermediate weight group stood out. It seemed to tilt in that direction. The weight on the sled for the corners or the receivers, proportionate to their sizes, was significant. Yet, it was a challenge.”

What effect has Mike Nolan had on the linebackers?

“He’s coached that position for a long time. He’s done a good job, certainly, in the preparation and the attention to details. We met as a staff last night. Just as we’re asking the players to have their best camp, we need to have our best camp. His experience is something that I think has helped us.”

Was there any sort of extra welcome for (Michael) Mauti?

“No, it was all good. The guys were excited to see him. Shoot, he was a special teams captain a year ago, so I know everyone felt really good knowing that he had gone through a lot.”

How have you seen David Onyemata grow?

“We saw growth last year while he was playing. With the limited amount of snaps he had—maybe high school through college—we knew when we drafted him that we were getting someone that we felt had a high ceiling. He has continued to improve on his technique, recognizing certain combination blocks and what the offense is trying to do. He is certainly going to be in that rotation and a guy that we are counting on.”

Can you talk about the competition on defense with so many spots up for grabs and what the young players need to prove to you?

“I mentioned yesterday that there are a number of spots guys are competing at. There is really good competition at corner, even at the safety position. It’s early, not being in pads yet. I mentioned the linebacker position, and certainly on the right side with the defensive end. At all of those spots, guys are working to be consistent and improve, eliminating the mistakes that they made in the spring, and building on those (reps).”

In your experience with first-year to second-year wide receivers, what tends to be the biggest leap for them, and what do you hope to see from Michael Thomas?

“I think (there are) two things. Number one: it varies. Occasionally, you get a guy that transitions right away, a guy like (Marques) Custom Ravens Jersey Colston. Robert Meachem was a guy that we drafted early that took a year before he got going. He was battling an injury early in his career. So, it depends on the player. Mike has worked hard in the offseason. He will not be a guy that flies under the radar like you might as a rookie. He will continue to work on his craft and get better.”

This is your 12th year doing this with Drew (Brees). As you evaluate him, is there anything different between how you look at him now and how you saw him then?

“It is my 11th, but Drew’s 12th. I think the preparation and process is still the same, as are the expectations and the meeting schedule. There are some things, obviously, that have changed over time, with the addition of certain personnel groups or plays. But, it is still a methodical approach to each Personalized Ravens Jersey day and really (about) working on that afternoon.”

Was that a fluky play where Drew got run into?

“You just have to be mindful of the tempo. Obviously, you want to stay clear of the quarterback. Feet got tangled, and a block fell into his lap, so it is one of the things you try to guard against.”

Drew threw for the second most yards of his career last season. Is the sky the limit even though he is 38?

“I think the most important thing is for us to win. I think Drew himself would say that. That is the stat that we’re paying close attention to. Hopefully, we’re in a position where we are not in one-dimensional games, either chasing a lead or a big score. Each week, that can vary. Our attention’s a lot more on the efficiency of what we’re doing.”

On the linebackers: can we expect a daily change to see different guys?

“You will see rotations. There are some guys that we might kick and move, but you will see a rotation. I would not read too much into who is with the ones, twos, and threes, because that will rotate somewhat. More importantly, we are trying to get a few guys comfortable at a certain position. Stephone (Anthony), specifically at the Will, is a little bit like Andrus (Peat) who came in, worked on the right side and worked at left tackle, because of an injury played at left tackle, then settled in at left guard. Hopefully, we can do the same for Stephone.”

Will (A.J.) Klein be moving?

“You will see him at Sam. You will see him at Mike.”

What can Ted Ginn Jr. bring to this offense?

“He is experienced, and he can run. I think he likes football, so there is a calmness and confidence about him. Also, (he will be helpful) as a return specialist. Having seen him and played against him twice a year, it is good to have him here.”

2017 New Orleans Saints Training Camp Countdown No. 2 -Custom Colts Jersey The Greatness of Drew Brees

Drew Brees is No. 2 on our countdown to 2017 New Orleans Saints Training Camp presented by Verizon.

Coming off of his fifth 5,000-yard season, it is no surprise that the future Pro Football Hall of Famer is at the top of the list. Year in and year out Drew Brees is the top player to watch on the New Orleans Saints roster. The Saints Personalized Ravens Jersey quarterback since 2006 has helped redefine what it means to be great at his position.

The Super Bowl XLIV MVP has thrown for 66,111 yards and 465 touchdowns. With a little under 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2017, the 16-year veteran Custom Colts Jersey could reach 70,000 passing yards and 500 touchdowns.

Brees reached his level of greatness through the way he trains and prepares for games. Watching the 10-time Pro Bowler lead the offense is always a sight to behold. During warmups or practice, Brees will throw the ball to one of the receivers, then go through his progressions and look to see where the other receivers were. The former Purdue quarterback owns the huddle with confidence which helps unite the offensive unit to produce successful plays. Famous for changing the play at the line of scrimmage, Brees reads the defenses and makes sure the team is running a play that will go for a positive gain. Women’s Nike Baltimore Ravens Personalized Elite Team Color Purple Football Jersey.

Saints Coach Sean Payton praised Brees’ preparation:

“At 211 degrees, water is just scalding hot. But at 212, it boils. It’s the significance of one degree. Everything about Drew Brees’ preparation is about that one extra degree.”Men’s Nike Atlanta Falcons Custom Made Elite Alternate All Black Football Jersey Shirt.

Where Brees truly separates himself from the other quarterbacks in the NFL, is his accuracy. The two-time AP Offensive Player of the Year has the ability to complete throws that others would not even consider throwing. The Saints offensive captain has the highest career completion percentage of all time. At training camp, he shows off his accuracy by dominating the daily QB challenges.

New Saints running back Adrian Peterson praised Custom Ravens Jersey his new quarterback during minicamp:

“Yeah, it’s definitely a perk to play with Drew Brees. Just being able to watch him, I know why he’s performed at such a high level for 15 years now.”

“Winning the day” is an approach that Brees has taken and it shows in the way Personalized Falcons Jersey he handles each practice and game.

“When you wake up, think about winning the day. Don’t worry about a week or a month from now – just think about one day at a time,” Brees said. “If you are worried about the mountain in the distance, you might trip over the molehill right in front of you. Win the day!”Youth Nike Indianapolis Colts Personalized Elite Away White NFL Football Jersey.

Day one, give us your assessment on where Custom Falcons Jersey you guys are?

“I thought it was good. Yesterday afternoon we had a pretty challenging conditioning test, so to recover from that pretty quickly and go out and get in the heat (was difficult). There’s a lot of volume, a lot of pace, a lot of plays, pretty fast-paced. I think the guys handled it well. I think it  Personalized Ravens Jersey definitely takes a few days to just get your legs underneath you, to get back into that football mode and football shape. That’s why you don’t put the pads on right away. You give guys a chance to adjust, and once you get the pads on, then you’re able to really fine tune.”Women’s Nike Baltimore Ravens Personalized Elite Team Color Purple Football Jersey.

You have a few new pieces to adjust with Ryan Ramczyk at left tackle and also Ted Ginn Jr. How are those guys acclimating?

“It’s good. Obviously, Teddy’s a veteran guy and has been around for a long time and I think he has played some of his best football over the last few years and over the later part of his career. I am looking for big things from him, high expectations, but, he’s a pro, knows how to work, knows how to take care of his body, (and) is a great veteran influence on the guys in that room. We have a great, young, hungry, competitive wide receiver room and I think he’s a great complement to that. Ramczyk, obviously with what happened to Terron (Armstead) during the offseason, we hope to get him back as soon as possible but, in the meantime, you’re looking for where Ramczyk can play. He can obviously, play on both sides; he can do a lot of things. I think just developing him each and every day (is critical). The great thing that he has, the great resource that he has, is Zach Strief. Zach Strief is such an incredible leader and mentor for any young offensive linemen coming into this league, especially a guy who’s playing tackle, playing the same position. I know Strief has worked with him a lot and been in his ear and will continue to be and I think that’s the best influence that a young guy can have.”

Is it somewhat a luxury Custom Ravens Jersey that if you guys had to, you could kick out Andrus Peat from left guard out to left tackle?Men’s Nike Atlanta Falcons Custom Made Elite Alternate All Black Football Jersey Shirt.

“Yeah we’ve got some versatility. Andrus Peat has played both left tackle and left guard. We’d obviously like to have him solidified at one position. I think that’s better for him, better for us, better for everybody and yet, you need to have some versatility. You talk about swing tackles and swing guards and guys that can do multiple things if they need to because you encounter situations where guys get hurt and you have just got to figure it out. I just watched that 30-for-30 recently on the Lakers and Celtics and Magic Johnson’s rookie year in game six or seven of the finals where Kareem Abdul-Jabbar goes out and Magic Johnson has to go play center. Sometimes guys just have to get in there and do something that’s best for the team.”

In all your years of experience what tends to be the biggest leap from year one to year two for wide receivers? Specifically Michael Thomas, what do you need to see from him this camp?

“The guy’s highly competitive, wants to be great, and works extremely hard. I think for him, it’s transitioning that raw Custom Colts Jersey talent into good fundamental football. There’s some certain traits and instincts that you can’t teach and he has a lot of those. There’s other things that you can really fine tune and teach. I think it’s just the fundamentals and the mechanics of the game and playing the wide receiver position. It’s footwork; it’s how are you getting off of your release; it’s how are you separating to get the ball, just little things like that that he will
Youth Nike Indianapolis Colts Personalized Elite Away White NFL Football Jersey continue to improve at because I see him working at it.”

In terms of your contract, is your stance the same? Have they approached you? Does anything kind of trigger wanting to get anything done before the season at all?

“My mind has not been there at all. It’s really a non-issue. For me, it’s all about this season, how good can we be this season and that’s all I’m focused on right now. So I’ll address it now and I’ll let you know if there’s any discussions that take place at any point, but right now they don’t. I don’t expect them to. I don’t really desire them to. I just want to play football. I want to help this team win.”

Last season you threw for the second most yards in your entire career, you have done this for over 10 years now. Adding new elements like Adrian (Peterson), for this offense, is the sky the limit even with you having so many years under your belt?

“Every year I feel like there is knowledge and experience that comes with that. There might be certain things that happen or little circumstances that you just continue to learn and grow (with) and you just need to have that mentality. I’ve played a lot of football and played a lot of it here, and it’s great having coaches that we’ve all been here together with like Sean Payton, Joe Lombardi, Pete Carmichael, even Curtis Johnson who was here for a long time then left and came back. There’s just a wealth of this knowledge and institutional knowledge. We can reference things that happened in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 that might apply to what we’re going through and what we are trying to accomplish now. So it’s good when you have that type of reference.”

Coach Payton said you had the second-best finish in the conditioning test yesterday. How satisfying is that to you with so many younger guys running around?

“I take pride in that. I feel like that’s part of being a leader. You have to set the tone; you have to establish the tempo. Guys are wondering who’s been working this offseason. I want to make sure that guys know that I have been working as hard as I possibly can to put us in the best position to succeed.”

Now that you have gone through this camp so many times, in what ways do you have to evaluate yourself to make sure that you are elevating your game?

“For me, I love camp. I do. I love camp. I love getting back with the guys, my teammates. I love the locker room. I love chomping away, every day, focusing on the process. I love the process. I love coming up with a plan, and then going out and executing the plan. For me, when I do establish that plan each and every offseason and going into training camp, I am constantly looking at ways, not only about how I can get better, but also about how I can take care of my body. How can I get a little bit stronger in this area, recover a little bit faster in this area? I am always looking at those things and then formulating the plan off of that. When I see things begin to work, and the results come from it, that is a good feeling.”

Craig Robertson was just joking that you are not 38, but you are actually 26. How old do you feel?

“I feel that, yes. I feel it. I was a little sore, waking up this morning, from that conditioning test; I will be honest with you. It is mind over matter in a lot of ways. There are a lot of things that I do to take care of my body. My approach to the game is that I tell myself that I am young. I act like I am young. I approach the game like I can do anything I want to do. I am smart about it, but then again, that is how I keep my edge.”

Obviously you have a sense of urgency every year, but how does your approach change after three straight non-playoff seasons?

“There is just a sense of urgency. Listen, I think what tends to happen is that—we are in a results-driven business, and the result was not what we wanted over the last three years. I think that the longer that goes, the human nature, based upon the pressure that is put on you, is that you press. You press. You are so focused on the end result that you lose track of the process that it takes to get there. I have always been a firm believer that if you focus on the process, the result takes care of itself, especially now that we are here on day one of training camp—day one. We have such a long road and journey ahead of us, so we cannot be looking to Week One. I am not looking to Week One right now. I am not thinking about the Minnesota Vikings right now. I am thinking about how I can make the guys around me better, how I can make myself better. I want to compete every day against our defense and make them better. That is all I am thinking about right now. It’s just one day at a time, one objective and goal at a time. It is just about focusing on the process.”

With practice closed to the public today, was it weird not having all of the fans out there on day one?

“Yes, but that time will come. Once we start with the pads on, the fans will be there. It’ll be great.”

As someone who loves camp, the past three years you have been out of town. What is it like to be back in town?

“It is great. It is rejuvenating. I love being at our facility. Everything is very familiar. Why would you want to leave this place now? Look at this; this locker room is fantastic. It is our meeting rooms, our technology, and our weight room. It is all of our stuff. There is just that level of familiarity but also our home fans. That has a lot to do with it. And then just being close to family so my kids can come and watch practice and that kind of thing—that is all a big part of being at home.”

What do you think about this new locker room and how it looks?

“It is over the top. It is unbelievable. You thought you were walking into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in here. It is all lit, and it is really incredible. They did a phenomenal job.”

What happened on the play where you got tangled up?

“That is part of it. The piles get pushed with pass rushing and that kind of thing. I just kind of went down and hopped back up. I am all good.”

I know you have consistently said that the contract is a non-issue. Would there not be a desire to just do what you did last year and sign a one-year extension so it is a non-issue?

“I guess you guys are going to keep asking me about it. That’s not my sense of urgency. My sense of urgency is in Personalized Colts Jersey making myself and my team better and putting ourselves in the best position to go out this year and have success. I know that that stuff takes care of itself. It takes care of itself when it’s supposed to. That shouldn’t be the priority right now.”

Have you thought about what kind of leverage situation you would be in if you had a giant year?

“Well, I expect to anyway. That mindset is the same every year. I really am not thinking about anything further than just what is in front of me right this second. Again, all of that stuff will take care of itself.”

John DeShazier: Top 10 storylines for New Personalized Falcons Jersey Orleans Saints training camp

Adrian Peterson, the heat and new linebackers among Personalized Falcons Jersey the top storylines to follow

Ten storylines to monitor as the New Orleans Saints enter 2017 training camp presented by Verizon

#1: Adrian Peterson

To Saints fans that are eager to see running back Adrian Peterson unleashed during training camp, we offer a word of advice courtesy of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers: R-E-L-A-X. Relax. There’s nothing to be gained by unnecessarily overworking Peterson during camp or preseason. Peterson falls into this category for Coach Sean Payton – you don’t have to see the goods every day, but you have to see them. During OTAs and minicamp, all indications Custom Falcons Jersey were that the Saints saw plenty enough to be enthused by the player who is No. 2 among active rushers, with 11,747 yards in his first 10 seasons. The injury and surgery that limited him to three games last year are in the rear view, but don’t just assume he’ll take over as the starter, either. Mark Ingram is coming off the best season of his career, and has proven to be effective over the years despite limited touches. Ingram knows the system better, has been very productive in it and has a rapport that can’t be underestimated. The competition should elevate the performance of each.Women’s Nike Baltimore Ravens Personalized Elite Team Color Purple Football Jersey.

It’s hot, and the heat is going to take a toll. That’s part of the price to be paid when training camp is held in Metairie, La., instead of White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. Now, that’s not to suggest that training camp in West Virginia softened the Saints or that they were coddled – that’s a Custom Colts Jersey ridiculous premise. But the ability to mentally fight through the adversity that will be faced due to the heat and humidity undoubtedly will help the Saints. The positive is that this isn’t ’06 or ’07 in Jackson, Miss. There are no two-a-days to fight through, so that’ll help. Still, it will be difficult and nothing bonds a team like a collective dose of adversity.

Do the Saints finally have a linebacker corps they believe can be effective? Well, they can’t be accused of sitting idle, crossing their fingers and hoping for improvement from the players who already were on the roster. So in the offseason, they picked up free agents A.J. Klein and Manti Te’o, and drafted Alex Anzalone. They’ll join Craig Robertson, Dannell Ellerbe and Nate Stupar (who all started games last season) and Stephone Anthony (a rookie starter two years ago) to give the Saints depth and competition. A healthy Ellerbe (knock wood) singularly elevates the group because of all the things he can do, including rush the passer. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has some chess pieces; training camp will go a long way toward showing him the best way to use them.Men’s Nike Atlanta Falcons Custom Made Elite Alternate All Black Football Jersey Shirt.

When the Saints signed free agent receiver Ted Ginn Jr., all indications were that he has been a better player in the second half of his first 10 seasons than he was in the first half; particularly, his last two seasons in Carolina (a total of 98 catches for 1,491 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015 and ’16). New Orleans needs a continuation of that. With Brandin Cooks traded to New England, Ginn is the proven deep threat on the roster and even at the age of 32, he still appears to be the fastest man on the field. The added bonus is that he also should juice up the punt return game.

The time has come for receiver Brandon Coleman to consistently display the ability that frequently he flashes, but too often isn’t used. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder routinely has played smaller and less forceful than his size would indicate, and the frequency of his drops has perplexed. New Orleans is set with its top three receivers (Ginn, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead IV). But there’s a reason the Saints have kept Coleman around, and it’s time for him to show why. Otherwise, someone else (Corey Fuller, perhaps?) is poised to take his reps and maybe, his roster spot.

#6: Offensive Personalized Ravens Jersey Line The offensive line likely is in much less disarray than circumstances might have suggested. First, center Max Unger may return by the third preseason game and if that happens, the line has its anchor. If it doesn’t, Josh LeRiebus was a starter two years ago for Washington and smoothly transitioned into the lineup during OTAs and minicamp. Second, if left tackle Terron Armstead misses the season due to shoulder surgery, the Saints’ contingency plan with Armstead being out (Andrus Peat kicks out to left tackle from left guard, Senio Kelemete starts at left guard) worked well for the majority of last season (Peat had 10 starts at LT, Kelemete had nine at LG). The reason to monitor the unit is to see how rookie tackle Ryan Ramczyk progresses. He was a left tackle at Wisconsin, is slated to work in at right tackle as a Saint, but perhaps could be called upon at left tackle if the Saints want to keep Peat at guard, a position which Peat appears to be mastering well.

#7: Sheldon Rankins

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who may not play again due to his heart ailment, will be missed, and not just because he had the best season of his NFL career (6.5 sacks Custom Ravens Jersey) last year. He also was a good presence in the locker room. But Sheldon Rankins, New Orleans’ 2016 first-round pick, could be ready to put on a show. Rankins broke his leg in training camp last year, missed half of the regular season, and still had four sacks in eight games. He wants to be a dominant player and looks like he can be.

#8: Defensive Backfield On paper, the cornerback position is capably manned. The trick is getting what’s on paper to the field and keeping it there. Starters Delvin Breaux and P.J. Williams were injured in the first (Breaux) and second (Williams) games of the ‘16 season,Custom Colts Jersey and neither returned to form (Breaux clearly wasn’t the same in the remaining five games he played after breaking his fibula, and Williams missed the rest of the season due to his severe concussion). They’re back, again poised to start and if they’re on the field, then having Sterling Moore and Ken Crawley back (starters for most of last year) will be a significant help, as will the addition of first-round draft pick Marshon Lattimore, who was considered the best corner in the 2017 draft. The talent is there; improved coverage will be a huge assist in helping the pass rush.

#9: Alex Okafor

The Saints have been searching for an impact player at right defensive end for the last several seasons (as irritating as it may be to admit, since Junior Galette was sent packing). Alex Okafor gets his turn at bat during training camp. Considering the attention that Cam Jordan attracts on the left side, and the possibility that Rankins will give opponents fits in the middle, Okafor could flourish. He should solidify his standing during camp.

#10: Alvin KamaraPerhaps no rookie bears watching more than running back Alvin Kamara, the third-round pick whom the Saints believe can be used in the Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles role on offense and special teams. That’s high praise and high expectations, and Kamara just may be the player who can touch that high ceiling for New Orleans. The team believes he can be a productive runner, knows he can be an outstanding receiver and is the kind of variable that can give opposing defenses fits. Kamara could be this year’s Michael Thomas of the rookie class. He may not break as many records as did Thomas last year, but he could have a jarring impact in his role.

Vaughan Johnson to be Inducted into Greater New Personalized Titans Jersey Orleans Sports Hall of Fame

Allstate Sugar Bowl to host banquet on Saturday, August 5, in the Superdome

The linebacking corps of the New Orleans Custom Redskins Jersey Saints in the late 80’s and early 90’s was known as the Dome Patrol, recognized as the best collection of talent at that position on a single club throughout NFL history. The most physical of the quartet was Vaughan Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 235-pounder who packed a wallop on any runner who might venture into his territory. He was quoted as saying, “I like to see their eyes roll back,”Personalized Titans Jersey  concerning any unfortunate ball carrier to make contact with the four-time Pro Bowler.

Johnson, who spent eight seasons in the Black and Gold from 1986-1993, will be the fourth of four standout local athletes to be inducted into the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 5, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Each year’s Hall of Fame class is

Johnson and fellow inside linebacker Sam Mills were flanked by Pat Swilling and Rickey Jackson on the outside as they formed the Dome Patrol. As a group,
Men’s Nike Custom Made Tennessee Titans Elite Light Blue Team Color NFL Jersey Sale they made 18 trips to the Pro Bowl.

Johnson’s lifetime best athletic performance came against the San Francisco 49ers, a longtime Saints nemesis. “I made a lot of tackles (669 stops for his career), but against the 49ers, I had 28 tackles in one game,” he chuckled. “[Defensive coordinator] Steve Sidwell told me, ‘I don’t know what you ate before the game, but I hope you eat it again.’” What the jaw-breaking tackler ate game day was QB Joe Montana, RB Roger Craig and FB Tom Rathman.

Although excelling at the highest level in football, baseball and basketball were his first love. “I was a power hitter Custom Titans Jersey, played catcher,” he said. “My dad was a great hitter as a baseball player. He was a star.  Baseball was big in Moorehead City, North Carolina.”

It didn’t take long for his hitting to transgress from the baseball diamond to the gridiron.

When it came to choosing a college destination, he wanted to stay close to home so his family and friends could watch him play, so he whittled his college football choices to North Carolina, East Carolina and North Carolina State. “I was real close to deciding on East Carolina until I visited North Carolina State. It felt like home.”

Playing for the Wolfpack, he sharpened his skills while taking his game to the next level under linebackers coach Greg Robinson. “He was one of the toughest guys, very demanding, always pushing me to be the best,” Johnson
Youth Tampa Bay Buccaneers Nike Customized New Elite Red Team Color Jersey said. “He taught me a lot about football, about being physical. In high school we only played three defenses. In college, we had 33 different defenses. I give him credit for my style.”

Vaughn held a pair of recognizable athletes in high esteem, both possessed the style that he admired and would strive to emulate, Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert and Muhammad Ali. “I loved the way Jack Lambert played,” he said. “Tough, hard-nosed, always kept his nose right in the middle of things. Wherever the ball went, he was there.

“Muhammad Ali, his confidence. He not only talked the talk, but he walked the walk. He believed in himself. He said what he meant and meant what he said.”

The Saints had been Custom Buccaneers Jersey the league’s punching bag since their inception in 1967. The arrival of head coach Jim Mora in 1986 signaled the beginning of the team’s success.

In 1987 the franchise reached a milestone with a 12-3 record and the first winning mark in team history. One game on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 29, 1987 was a turning point.

The Saints defense held firm on a pair of magnificent goal-line stands in the fourth quarter to hold off the Steelers 20-16. It represented the fifth consecutive victory en route to a nine-game streak to end the campaign. “That was my fondest memory as a Saint,” Johnson said. “The team’s first winning season. To share that with the coaches and players was special.  It took a lot of hard work to get there. That win was for the city and team history.”

The Dome Patrol stands as the NFL standard for all NFL linebackers. All four were selected to the 1992 Pro Bowl, the only time all four linebackers from the same team were so honored. “That was something special,” Johnson remembered. “To be a part of that, great football players, great men. To be a competitor, to be a winner. The sacrifice it required. You didn’t want to let those guys down. We took pride not allowing opponents to score.”

Prior to his arrival in Personalized Buccaneers Jersey the Crescent City, Johnson’s knowledge of the city was limited. “The only thing that I knew was that the fans wore bags over their heads,” he said with a hearty laugh. The charm and ambience of the city soon became obvious. “From day one, my family and I have been given respect. They appreciated the way I played. I never complained about my contract. The Saints fans are very knowledgeable of the game. They are behind their team 100 percent.”

Johnson has been recognized in other Halls of Fame, but feels the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame is special. “This is a tremendous honor to be selected. I never thought that I had a chance at this. I want to thank the fans. From the moment I stepped foot there they respected and embraced me. What an honor! Go Saints!”
